Services - Sports fields

No matter what your need with regard to sports field maintenance, it is almost certain that we will be able to assist you.

City Parks Services currently maintains 220 sports fields,  both sand and soil based, in the Auckland region for the Auckland Council as well as a number of schools and clubs. A dedicated team of more than 20 field staff, with the help of a wide range of machinery and equipment, works on these fields.

Staff mow approximately 350 hectares of sports fields using out front mowers, reel mowers and tractors with rear mounted rotary mowers. Currently we topdress 110 sand fields annually. City Parks Services also carries out substantial renovations on many fields throughout Auckland each year in late winter/early spring. Our diverse customers include Auckland Council, St Kentigern College, Carlton Grammar Rugby Club, Glenfield College, Cornwall Cricket Club and Auckland Racing Club.

We also programme, control and maintain 80 fields requiring irrigation. This includes the management of water applied to the fields as well as basic maintenance and repairs. City Parks Services also operates travelling irrigators and stand pipes.

Each year City Parks Services prepares, maintains and renovates 45 grass wicket blocks, including national and premier blocks, plus 18 junior grass outfield strips, 1 hoggin wicket, 25 artificial wickets and net practice facilities. We also construct wicket blocks.

City Parks Services currently erects, dismantles, stores, inspects, repairs, maintains and secures over 200 sets of goal posts annually for sports such as senior and junior soccer, rugby league, rugby union and Aussie Rules.

Fields are line marked for many different activities. This includes marking over 250 winter playing fields, 50 cricket ovals, 20 softball diamonds, 9 x 400m, 2 x 300m and 1 x 200m athletic tracks, 3 Aussie Rules fields, 3 Gaelic fields, 40 seven-a-side soccer, 61 touch fields, 3 Grid Iron fields, 3 Lacrosse fields and 1 Frisbee Field. On certain fields, a laser line marker is used to ensure perfectly straight lines.

"City Parks Services staff currently maintain 220 sports fields and mow 350 hectares each year. Services also include irrigation, looking after wicket blocks and goal posts, as well as line marking and weed, pest and disease management."
