Stepping up to the challenge |
|
City Parks Services' team in Manukau recently completed a challenging landscaping project at Eastern Beach, Auckland. The job entailed the building of three raised F5* finish raised situ garden beds (7m x 2m @ 450mm high). The landscape designer had specified d10 steel set at 150mm intervals, which meant putting in around 0.5km of steel across all three beds. The foundations and the raised situ were designed to be in one complete piece shaped like an 'L'. The challenge was to build the shutters and a foundation in one complete form whilst at the same time ensuring the concrete reached all of the boxing. The F5* finish was also difficult as it needed to be uniform and smooth and this can only be achieved using a special type of ply. The team involved in completing the job included Andrew Osbourne, Brad Flutey and Marcel Morgan. The soil and bark work was done by George Scrimgeour, Michael Annison, Norman Hopkins and Chris Rose. The plants (Dietes bicolour / African Iris and Phormium / Evening Glow) were supplied by Kari Street nursery. (*Finish required for formed concrete surfaces where plaster, stucco or wainscoting is to be applied.) |
